The project employed three thousand artisans over a period of 15 years (1929-1943). The palace is named after its builder, Maharaja Umaid Singh (1876-1947).  Mehrangarh Fort: Mehrangarh Fort, located in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan state is one of the largest forts and a famous tourist place in India. The fort is situated at a height of 400 feet above the city, and is surrounded by thick walls around it.
